The Sierra College Ridley Gallery presents, Reflecting, photographic work by Elizabeth Opalenik. With richly colored photographs of figures submerged in glimmering water, Opalenik transforms visual reality. Opalenik writes of this work, “The energy of the water draws me to it’s mysterious fluid world where I see reality reflected in forms created by light and shadow, but so altered that the boundaries between reality and reflection blur”. This exhibition runs March 5- 22, with a reception March 20, 5-7pm.

As a photographic artist, she believes that all good photographs are self-portraits that lie somewhere between imagination and dreams. Her 35 year career has found her teaching or making images on six continents, seeking the beauty and grace that exists within all things. Opalenik conducts photographic portrait, figure and Mordançage workshops internationally, creating a sense of wonder and possibility in her students. She will be the Keynote speaker at the Photography and Applied Art and Design OH2 event April 19, 7-8pm.

Elizabeth’s work is collected, published and exhibited internationally. Based in Oakland, Opalenik also travels with Medical Ministries International, documenting the projects of eye doctors in Colombia, Bolivia and the Amazon. Following a life-long dream, she published her first monograph, Poetic Grace-Elizabeth Opalenik Photographs 1979-2007. Her website is www.opalenik.com. You can also find her on Facebook and Instagram.
