2018 INTELLECTUAL SALON SERIES
There's No Place Like Home: From parasites to polar bears. Presented by Instructors, Shawna Martinez, Joe Medeiros, Jennie Skillen
Sierra College’s Library in Rocklin announces its 2018 Intellectual Salon Series. This year’s series is titled, Home – An Intellectual Exploration of the Concept. This is the fourth in a series of annual salons. This library-sponsored series has explored Time, Love and Fear in the three previous years’ salons.
This year’s series is based on the word home. Monthly salons will discuss myriad and diverse meanings, interpretations and applications of the word. Is home a place? A structure? A feeling? Is it safe? Is it not? Is wanting a home universal? Do we all want to go home?
The word home is found in literature, poetry, music, psychology, music, architecture, science, religion, humor and elsewhere. Where is it? What is it?
Sierra College professors function as provocateurs and pathfinders in the intellectual salons. Providing basic information, they set the stage for free-flowing discussions based on the specific topic of the month. Professors provide resources and expertise while participants share their knowledge, thoughts and experiences relative to the topic.
Intellectual salons are free and open to all. All salons are from 12:30-1:50 PM in the Library at the Rocklin Campus 2nd Floor Circulation Desk.
