Greg McLaughlin is a Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music at Sierra Collge. He currently teaches courses in Jazz History, Music Fundamentals, Applied Music-Woodwinds, and Advanced Ear Training, as well as directing the Sierra College Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble.
An alumnus of Sierra College’s Music program (AA, 1978), McLaughlin also holds degrees in flute performance from CSU Sacramento (Bachelor of Music, 1983; Master of Arts, 1994). He has served on the faculty at Sierra College since 1991, primarily as Director of Jazz and Instrumental Studies. He has instructed many performing groups, including the award-winning Sierra College Jazz Ensemble and Sierra College Jazz Voices.
As a dedicated educator, Greg has been a private instructor in the Sacramento area since 1976. Currently, he and his wife, Nancie, own and operate McLaughlin Studios and McLaughlin Theatre Company, a highly regarded music, dance, and theater arts education facility located in Loomis. He also serves as the Artistic Director for the Sierra Performing Arts Association. Greg has been an active woodwind performer, freelancing throughout the Sacramento region for over thirty years. Versed in Broadway, classical and jazz idioms, McLaughlin has performed with many diverse ensembles.
Greg McLaughlin’s professional affiliations include California Teachers Association (CTA), Music Association of California Community Colleges (MACCC), College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), Music Educator’s National Conference (MENC), and National Flute Association (NFA).
