Mechatronics at Sierra College teaches you to build, program and maintain the automated systems that run modern factories, hospitals and clean-energy projects. Following graduation, Mechatronics majors work in many fields, including electronics, mechanical systems, programming, semiconductors, manufacturing or transportation. Find jobs as field service technicians, industrial electricians, fabricators, assemblers, PLC programmers or microcontroller programmers.

From Classroom to Career

Who This Program is For
No prerequisites. No math wall. Multiple entry points mean you start where you are.
- High School Students: Earn college credit through dual enrollment before you graduate. Del Oro already offers MECH 8. Antelope and Oakmont have a MECH 10 and ADVM 3D lab.
- Career Changers and Working Adults: Start with one class and build from there. Only basic algebra is required. People who started where you are now work at Bosch, NextEra and Herzog Surgical.
- Engineers and Current Employees: Engineers with bachelor’s degrees come back for hands-on training, and employers send their staff through the program. Eleven Bosch employees completed the certificate in three semesters and earned promotions to maintenance technician.
- Students Headed for a Bachelor’s: Stackable credentials can transfer toward Sacramento State through a growing partnership, including a co-taught advanced robotics course.
The Coalition
Sierra College does not do this alone. The Mechatronics pathway is built and backed by the K16 Collaborative, Bosch, Micron, Sacramento State, NextEra, Herzog Surgical, Sacramento Hispanic Chamber, City of Roseville and Roseville Joint Union High School District. Bosch granted $100,000 to Sierra College Mechatronics for student success. Industry partners helped develop the new Facilities Automation and Building Energy certificate.
