What is SWS?
The Sierra Workforce Summit is an opportunity for Placer County’s major employers and education providers to come together on Sierra College’s Rocklin campus to continue a dialogue to learn, plan and act in tandem to prepare youth and working-age adults now for good-paying jobs. Review our Call to Action inspired by the interactive exchange during our inaugural 2024 summit.
Call to Action
By 2028:
- Placer learners of all ages are connected to promising careers and can work or intern in their field of interest while in school.
- More than 50 area employers are actively engaged with local schools and business-serving organizations to anticipate and fill future workforce needs.
- All public and private education providers and community-based organizations in Placer County support career exploration and have created clear educational pathways for all students to access high-demand jobs.
- Educators, employers and civic organizations have helped more than 2,000 working-age adults increase their skills to advance in their current job or transition to a new career.
Business, education, government, tribes, and community groups function as one team, leveraging information, learnings, and approaches for preparing students for good-paying jobs, making Placer County the leading place in California for lifelong learning and career-long success.

The Future of Work Is a Local Conversation
The future of work won’t be designed in Silicon Valley alone. It is shaped right here in communities like ours, driven by the partnerships we build and the opportunities we create together.
Employers, industry leaders, education and workforce partners are encouraged to participate in this important regional conversation.
We have a phenomenal lineup of local leaders and speakers ready to help us make sense of these dynamic times. Because the true power of this summit lies in our collective community collaboration, we have designed significant portions of the day to focus on active interaction, networking, and shared problem-solving.
Come ready to connect, share insights, and dive into meaningful conversations that will help shape the economic landscape of our region.
Panel Discussion

2025 SWS Q&A
On June 3, 2025, Sierra College hosted its second annual Sierra Workforce Summit, bringing together leaders from business, education, government, and community organizations for a half-day of strategic conversation about workforce development in Placer County. While the session was packed with insights—from federal policy updates to employer–education partnerships and student success stories—time constraints meant we couldn’t tackle every question from participants. This Q&A is designed to address those unanswered topics and deepen the discussion.
