MakerSpace
A Free Creative Resource for Our Students, Staff
The MakerSpace mission is to be a shared space for students of all backgrounds and majors/interest areas. It is a place where students can come together to learn, make mistakes, problem-solve and use their imaginations to create. We work with students to explore their ideas and help them realize their creative potential using the most modern tools and technologies. Learn how to get started and find answers to frequently asked questions about the MakerSpace.
What to Expect
Think of the MakerSpace as a noisy library located in the Advanced Technology Center (Building N) on the Rocklin Campus. We provide a free resource where all currently enrolled students can gain hands-on experience while expanding their knowledge of Making.
We offer modern technologies, tools and machines to aid in the process of creating with a focus on safety and understanding.
On any given day you can walk in and find music playing, students working at computers, groups talking through ideas on whiteboards and coaches providing equipment training. You may even experience piano performances or see students painting with Bob Ross.

Getting Started
- Come in with an idea or a desire to try something and let’s see what we can help you Make. We’re located in Building N. View campus map and office hours.
- When you first arrive at the MakerSpace, please check in at the front desk with your student ID.
- After you check in, find an open work space and we will pair you with a MakerSpace employee, better known as a coach. Coaches can typically be spotted wearing pink aprons.
Work With a Coach
Although we believe failure is part of the journey and the best method to learn, our MakerSpace coaches are available to help guide you through the process and double check that you are set up for success.
By working with our coaches, we can meet you where you are in your Maker journey and provide you with the necessary knowledge you need at each step in your Maker process. This way, you do not have to remember hours of information that is unrelated to what your are currently working on.
The greatest teacher, failure is.

MakerSpace Ideals
Creativity, challenge, collaboration and energy are just a few words that describe the MakerSpace environment. We are in the business of inspiring new ideas, sharing to expand knowledge, and testing possibilities.
For your safety and learning:
- Do not race to be done. Instead, learn and understand from the outcomes you’re experiencing during each step of the process. Consider why you’re doing it that way and if there are opportunities to try something different.
- Remember that doing things slow makes you fast. Thoughtful, methodical action can lead to learning and building habits that make your work more effective and reliable.
- Prepare to struggle. Embrace the struggle rather than avoid it. This is a sign you’re learning. But remember that you do not have to struggle alone. Ask for help from a coach. That is why they are here.
We believe in being a safe space for all students. The MakerSpace is a place for all students to engage their interests and expand their knowledge.
