Sierra WordFest
Where Reading Meets Writing
Looking forward to seeing you at our next event in Feb. 2027. Check back here (sierracollege.edu/wordfest) for updates.
First held in 2015 as a collaboration between Sierra Writers and Sierra College, the Sierra Writers Conference is now the Sierra WordFest. This much anticipated annual event provides inspiration, thought-provoking discussions, and presentations on timely topics. It also offers access to professional writers and publishers, plus writing activities for Sierra College students and the greater community through lectures, panels, workshops, and networking opportunities.
2026 Sierra WordFest: Power of Place
Now in its second decade, the Sierra Writers Conference is evolving into the Sierra WordFest because it isn’t just for writers. It’s a celebration for those who love the spoken and written word.
This year’s event will feature well-known writers, such as Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket), and center on the theme “Power of Place.” The 2026 Sierra WordFest welcomes all literarians – listeners, readers and writers alike.
Seize this moment in this place.
Join us for three days of presentations and workshops that feed your soul, inspire your craft, and connect you with your community.
What Attendees Are Saying…
I’ve attended three Wordfest events in the last four years, and I love it!
Lori Burkhart Frank
We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to hear from accomplished writers and take workshops right here in our community.
Friends of mine also love coming up from the Bay Area to enjoy the day full of inspiration and learning.
I get it on my calendar as soon as the date is released to make sure I am able to attend.
The Sierra College WordFest was such an enlightening experience for me as a young writer. I felt part of the community surrounded by beginners like myself, and experts of the craft. I had no idea just how much local talent we had until attending. Any student, writer, researcher, or reader will learn something valuable from an event like this, and feel uplifted and inspired by the guests that came to teach.

I really enjoyed the Sierra WordFest. I was glad that my friend and fellow OLLI instructor, Joan Griffin, told me about it. Naturally, I thought her presentation along with Lisa Redfern on AI and how it affects authors was extremely timely. I enjoyed the other breakout sessions I attended, including Julia Park Tracey’s about writing historical fiction. As a freelance editor, her information was extremely valuable when it comes to working within that genre.
