No prior automation experience is required. Our curriculum is designed for career changers who bring diverse professional backgrounds—whether you’ve worked in construction, facilities maintenance, IT, or an entirely different field. We build foundational knowledge in mechanical systems, electrical concepts, and programming from the ground up. Many successful graduates entered the program with hands-on trade experience but limited exposure to building automation technology. We specifically designed this certificate for working adults. Classes are offered through a combination of online, evening, and hybrid formats, allowing you to maintain your current employment while building new skills.

While you’ll develop foundational knowledge through coursework, the program emphasizes practical lab work where you interact directly with the systems you’ll encounter in the field—programmable logic controllers (PLCs), building automation networks, HVAC control panels, sensor integration, and energy management platforms.

You’ll troubleshoot real equipment, configure control sequences, and work through scenarios that mirror actual job site challenges. This isn’t abstract theory; it’s applied learning designed to build confidence and competency before you step into a professional role.
