Once you’ve successfully completed the Academy, you will meet the training requirements for the California State Fire Marshall Firefighter 1. You can then apply for the certification after successful completion of the task book and experience requirements.

Firefighter 1 or 2 Certification Exam(s) / Fire 101 Course

The following information is provided to help guide Alternate Delivery/Reciprocity/Upgrade Firefighter 1 Certification Exam Candidate’s or Alternate Delivery/Reciprocity/Upgrade Firefighter 2 Certification Exam Candidates seeking State Fire Certification for FF1A, FF1B, FF1C, FF2A by completing the written and psychomotor exams.

The Sierra College Fire Technology/Academy Program allows participation in California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 and 2 Certification Exam(s) / Fire 101 Course for individuals who have not attended the Sierra College Regional Fire Firefighter Academy.

  • The alternate/reciprocity candidate’s participation in Sierra College’s California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 and/or 2 Exam is at the discretion of the Registered Lead Evaluator and Academy Director.
  • The Fire Academy allows external candidates to participate in the exam testing when openings are available at the end of either the Spring semester (approximately the first two weeks in May) or Fall semester (approximately the second week in November).

We, as the Accredited Regional Training Program (ARTP), require the following documentation:

  • MUST BE ENROLLED AT SIERRA COLLEGE. Visit How to Apply to Sierra College to enroll before completing the form.
  • MUST SUBMIT ALL DOCUMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED.
  • The completed form must be submitted at least six weeks prior to scheduled exam date for review.

We as the Accredited Regional Training Program will need the form completed in its entirety. If a candidate is unable to provide all required information in the form, the candidate will not be allowed to test. Please review all the requirements.

Firefighter Academy Program Information

Our Firefighter 1 and 2 Academy is offered through partnerships with the Placer and Nevada County Fire Chief’s Associations and the City of Roseville Fire Department. Sierra College is recognized by the California State Fire Marshal and the State Board of Fire Services as an Accredited Regional Training Program.
