About the Sierra College Archives

The Sierra College Archives tell the story of our institution’s long-standing history in Placer and Nevada Counties. It highlights not only the students who attended, but also the faculty members, administrators, employees, visitors, donors and dignitaries who have all played an integral role in Sierra College’s legacy — from it’s humble beginnings to today and far into the future.

Sierran Yearbook 1961 1000x1300

Yearbooks

Find digitized Sierra College yearbooks dating from 1927 to 1972. The yearbooks went by different names such as Potpourri (1927-38), Phoenix (1939-1953) and Sierran (1954-1972) as the college changed names, expanded in size and moved from locations in Auburn to Rocklin.

In the 1930 edition, the yearbook staff wrote: True, it [Sierra College, née Placer Union High School] is essentially like thousands of other educational institutions scattered over every state in the union; yet certain advantages set it apart from and above the average run of public schools.

1967 Viewpoint Sierra Journal

Viewpoint

Before the Sierra Journal, there was Viewpoint. It was published by the Sierra College Press as a literary magazine between 1960 and 1970.

In the 1960 issue, the contributors wrote: If this magazine, then, has a discoverable tone, that tone is the individual concern and passion of its writers. The writers put on paper what pleases them, what saddens and perhaps injures them. They want you to read these things. Welcome to Viewpoint.
