Sierra College Ranks Among Elite Athletics Programs
National Organization Ranks Sierra Athletics #2 in California, #8 in Nation
The latest annual ranking from the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) puts Sierra College Athletics among the top college athletics programs in the nation and second among California community colleges.
According to NAYTCAA’s ranking, Sierra College men’s and women’s teams earned a total of 156.5 points during the 2025-26 school year. This point total earns Sierra College the second highest score in the California state division (3C2A), the third highest score among state divisions in California, Oregon and Washington (known as the “Ron Case Cup”), and eighth highest nationally in the state divisions category (known as the “Learfield Cup”). Sierra College was ranked highest among Northern California colleges.
“This recognition of Sierra’s highly successfully athletics program is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our student athletes, as well as the coaches, athletic trainers, staff and many others who support them,” said Rachel Jonhson, Athletic Director for Sierra College. “Sierra College is firmly committed to robust athletics programs, and we believe competition provides strong leadership opportunities for our student athletes and supports their academic success.”
The Ron Case Cup’s scoring is based on finishes in state championship events, with points calculated from the top five men’s and top five women’s team performances. Sierra College’s total included points from state championships won by men’s swim and dive, which tied for its sixth consecutive state championship, and women’s soccer. Points were also awarded for men’s finishes in water polo, wrestling, golf and basketball, and for women’s golf, water polo, swim and tennis, where the women’s team placed second in California.
