Supporting Groundbreaking Approaches in Education, Workforce

Many veterans experience challenges as they return to civilian life and pursue an education. Join us in supporting Boots to Books and Peer-to-Peer Mentoring, which help our veterans complete this mission through the Veterans Success Center.

Boots to Books

Boots to Books is a specialized course at Sierra College, which was created to prepare student military veterans for the transition to higher education. Boots to Books provides an overview of college terms, student success practices, the transfer process, and degree/certificate requirements.

Using these as a guide, students formulate an educational plan to increase success in reaching educational goals. Additionally, the course provides information on GI Bill benefits, financial aid, VA compensation/pension claims, combat stress injuries, and available resources.

Above all, the course recreates the sense of camaraderie service members are accustomed to while assisting them in achieving their educational goals.

Peer-to-Peer Mentoring

The Sierra College Veterans Cadre is a core group of dedicated student veterans trained to provide peer-to-peer mentoring. They provide assistance with:

  • College application and registration
  • GI Bill benefits
  • Veterans resources
  • Mental health awareness training
  • Community service
  • Social/recreational activities
  • Leadership training

Thank you to the supporters of Sierra College. The Veterans Success Center put me on the path to succeed. I have been able to get my bachelor’s degree in three years. It has given me a sense of self-esteem, empowerment and self-purpose. Now I feel a strong competency in my ability to achieve anything.
