CCC Employee Resource Group Statewide Conference
Coming to Sacramento April 13 – 16, 2025
Unity in Diversity: Strengthening Community Through Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
Sierra College has embarked on a transformative journey to enhance our institutional culture, particularly focusing on supporting our employees, including those from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQIA+, and intersectional backgrounds. Our ERGs have been a cornerstone of this mission, providing support, mentorship, and professional development.
To elevate this initiative, we are organizing a conference at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento (1209 L Street) that will bring together California Community College ERGs from across the state. Learn about our keynote speakers.
Registration Notes: The primary audience for this conference are employees of the California Community Colleges (CCCs) or those very closely affiliated with the CCCs. Priority will be given to CCC employees for registration.

Keynote Speakers
Farima Pour-Khorshid, PhD
Dr. Farima Pour-Khorshid was born and raised in the California Bay Area. She is a first-generation PhD and Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco. She has over a decade of experience teaching in her community while also lecturing, supervising, and supporting educators. Her work has been locally, nationally, and internationally situated in her roles as a university professor, teacher supervisor, educational consultant, and educator-organizer.
Dr. Farima has learned, organized, and served within collectives including the Teachers 4 Social Justice, the Education for Liberation Network, the Abolitionist Teaching Network, Flourish Agenda, the Song Remedy, Village is Possible, and BE-Imaginative. As such, she recently received the 40 Under 40 Leadership Award from California State University, East Bay for her humanizing, healing centered, and abolitionist approaches within and outside of the field of education.
Portia Jackson Preston, PhD
Dr. Portia Preston is an Associate Professor of Public Health at California State University, Fullerton, where she dedicates her research to inclusive approaches to wellness and performance. Her scholarly work includes numerous publications on secondary traumatic stress, burnout among professionals, and stress and self-care among Black women.
As the founder of Empowered to Exhale, Dr. Preston provides executive coaching and consulting services focused on wellness for individuals and organizations. She has been a featured speaker at notable events such as TEDxUCIrvine and TEDxCrenshaw. Dr. Preston candidly shares her journey as a Black woman navigating health challenges and a late-stage diagnosis of AuDHD (Autism and ADHD). Through these experiences, she has developed strategies to persevere, establishing systems that evolve with her life and addressing perceived flaws as needs. She offers tools to help others create wellness approaches that honor their lived experiences.
Dr. Preston advocates for organizational cultures to institute structural changes that promote wellness rather than perpetuate burnout. She aims to inspire individuals to nurture self-compassion, shed shame, and advocate for environments where everyone can thrive.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cultural and Social Anthropology from Stanford University, a Master of Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan, and a Doctorate of Public Health in Health Services from UCLA. Dr. Preston is the author of the forthcoming book, Hustle, Flow, or Let it Go? A Guide to Shame-Free Wellness that Honors Your Reality and Gives You Life, set to be released by Revell in August 2025.
